Opendata: a tool for growing up

It is now some years that you may hear about Public Bodies' Opendata and about the necessity of publishing as many data as possible in some open format, so that anyone can read and reuse them.

Surely, something has been done so far. In Italy there are currently many opendata web portals managed by Public Bodies (and among them, I'm proud to highlight the one published by Provincia di Roma), and the number of open dataset grows up daily.

Anyway, the process of publishing and sharing must be done paying much much attention because, for example, datasets must be kept updated and information have to be as correct as possible

What we really need, inside a Public Body, is a sort of 'information hub' which all the departments must refer to. This Opendata HQ must collect data and verify their obsolescence, and also must transform then in open data format, choosing the best way to do this.
But it's not so easy: it is important, for example, to keep in mind that some information should be kept hidden, due to privacy needs.
And furthermore it is also important to keep contact with national and international entities, in order to choose and share a common format which could really make data available worldwide.

As you can see, we are talking about a long and hard road. But at the same time, this road can also be useful and fascinating. It is a way to make Public Bodies go modern.
